What is the Fuel System in a Car?

The car's fuel system manages the storage, delivery, and combustion of fuel to power the vehicle. It comprises several components like the fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel lines, and fuel injectors (or carburetors in older cars). The fuel tank, located at the rear of the vehicle, stores gasoline or diesel fuel. The fuel pump, usually electric, pumps the fuel from the tank to the engine.

The fuel filter removes impurities and contaminants from the fuel before it reaches the engine to ensure proper engine performance and longevity. Fuel lines transport the fuel from the fuel tank to the engine and must be durable and sealed properly to prevent leaks. In modern cars, fuel injectors spray fuel directly into the combustion chamber of each cylinder to create a fine mist, while older cars use carburetors to mix air and fuel before it enter the cylinders.

Other Filters

  1. Oil Filters

The oil filter removes contaminants from the engine oil to ensure the oil circulating through the engine is clean.

  2. Air Filters

The air filter traps dirt, dust, and debris from the engine. A clean filter is crucial for engine efficiency.
